I’m proud of you on this brother. Love the “wire” reference and the standing by our boy line.

Found this quote about journalistic self censorship:

“Self-censorship is commonplace in the news media today, according to a survey of nearly 300 journalists and news executives by the Pew Research Center and the Columbia Journalism Review. About one-quarter of the local and national journalists say they have purposely avoided newsworthy stories, while nearly as many acknowledge they have softened the tone of stories to benefit the interests of their news organizations. Fully four-in-ten (41%) admit they have engaged in either or both of these practices.”

This decision by the Journal makes self-censorship seem like a sound career decision.

Poor kid made the mistake of thinking he was hired to be a journalist. Discouraging story.

Mr. Lee,

I have just read your piece on the firing of Matt McCann as well as what the CBC and the TJ itself had to say on the issue. All I can say is I’m glad I wound up leaving the news business when I did. Otherwise, I might be out of a job for not having been 100 percent accurate as well as for occasionally using questionable grammar. The unfortunate thing is those responsible hope this will all just blow over. And chances are that’s exactly what’s going to happen.
